Spent the weekend in Chicago with these handsome fellas! We left early Friday so I never got a chance to post the five senses for friday. So I figured I would do a recap of our weekend in that style. I still haven’t found my “real” camera cord so these are just pictures from my phone. It was a great weekend. The weather was amazing and Oskar was the perfect traveler all the way until our car ride back to Michigan which was one epically long on and off meltdown. Hey, can’t win ’em all.
We stayed at a hotel downtown and Oskar slept in his new travel crib. Got a great deal for the room but the parking cost from the hotel was insane. We ended up finding a garage near by and got parking for half the cost using the SpotHero app (use that link and you get $5, woo hoo). I highly recommend it if you need city parking. We’ve been to Chicago quite a bit now and in the future I think we would rather stay off in a neighborhood that we enjoy spending time in and get out of the main downtown area. Sorry magnificent mile.
Friday night my cousin and his wife babysat Oskar (seriously awesome of them) while Nick and I snuck out for a concert and drinks. It was the first night out just the two of us since Oskar was born. I can’t believe it took 8 months. Now I see why people setup reoccurring date nights. I think I’ll jump on that train. Here’s more about our trip…
Sight: Our first stop was at Architectural Artifacts. Oskar was given a little ‘O’ for his letterpress drawer in his room. There were a couple amazing leather ottoman/benches I was in love with but way out of our price range, more lighting than I’ve ever seen, a giant hamburger, and my dream car was parked out front.
Smell: Fleur was such a cute flower shop. They had a great selection of blooms and gifts. I liked that you could freely put together your own bunch or have one of the gifted florists do it for you, wish there was a floral shop like this in Ann Arbor.
Sound: The trip was planned around the Queens of the Stone Age concert on Friday. I’ve been a long time fan (errrr… I’ve had a crush on Josh Homme for over 15 yrs).
Taste: We kicked off the trip with a sip of whiskey at Koval and dinner at Beatrix. Saturday we hung out on the patio at Reno – the old bay bagel with artichoke schmear is something I will now regularly crave and Oskar left his little Sophie there :(, we grabbed a drink at Parson’s – hello negroni slushie, had dinner at Little Goat and then drinks at Green Street Smoked Meats. Little Goat was really good and super family friendly – get the nachos, bring yo babies. Green Street had the greatest outdoor seating in the alleyway, an amazing interior, and the smoked meats smelled incredible, definitely have to eat here next time.
Touch: We just ordered a king bed and got our first glimpse at the hotel. I see lots of family cuddling in our future.
